Pune: The inauguration of Pune Metro's underground route from the District Court to Swargate has now been rescheduled and will be conducted online on September 29 at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The inauguration was originally scheduled on Thursday (September 26). However, due to inclement weather, including heavy rainfall, the Prime Minister’s visit to Pune was canceled.

The Metro's underground section, which runs from the District Court Metro Station to Swargate Metro Station, is one of the most anticipated additions to Pune's public transport network.

This segment, primarily below ground, is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and provide a faster commuting option for daily travelers in the city.

The Prime Minister’s scheduled visit on Thursday was canceled, leading to speculation regarding the new inauguration date. The office of the Prime Minister has now confirmed that the inauguration of various key infrastructure projects in Maharashtra, including the metro route, will take place online on September 29.

Among the projects to be inaugurated is the Swargate-Katraj Metro route, which will also see its groundbreaking ceremony performed online. This extension is expected to further enhance connectivity across Pune’s growing urban landscape.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the building of the first girls’ school at the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial in Bhidewada.

This memorial is of significant historical importance as it marks the site of the first school for girls in India, established by the pioneering social reformer Savitribai Phule.

The Prime Minister’s online engagements on September 29 will also include the inauguration of Solapur Airport, which aims to boost regional connectivity and economic growth in the Solapur district.

The airport’s development is part of a broader plan to enhance infrastructure across Maharashtra, providing better access and convenience to travelers.
