Pune: Housing projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Baramati Taluka have come to a standstill as numerous beneficiaries await the release of their due installments.

Since February, many have reported that they have not received the funds required to complete the construction of their homes.

The PMAY, which offers financial assistance of ₹1.2 lakh to eligible beneficiaries for the construction of permanent homes, is part of the government's broader "Housing for All - 2024" initiative, which aims to provide every eligible citizen with a home by 2024.

Various government schemes under PMAY, such as the Ramai Awas Yojana for Scheduled Castes and Tribes and the Yashwantrao Chavan Free Housing Scheme for Nomadic Tribes, are being implemented to fulfill this goal.

However, prior to the introduction of the Modi Awas Yojana, there was no specific scheme for beneficiaries from Other Backward Classes (OBCs), leaving many OBC families without adequate housing support.

Despite these efforts, the delay in disbursing installments under the Modi Awas Yojana has left many housing projects incomplete. The ongoing monsoon has exacerbated the situation, with halted construction causing significant difficulties for the affected families.

Beneficiaries are now urgently requesting the government to expedite the release of the remaining funds to enable the completion of their homes.

Anil Bagal, Group Development Officer of Baramati, confirmed that none of the approved beneficiaries have received their funds yet but assured that the funds would be deposited soon.
