Pune: The long-awaited integration of Phule Wada and the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial in Mahatma Phule Peth is finally set to commence.

The Pune Municipal Corporation has issued a purchase order to acquire 10,942 square feet of land in the area, marking the first step in creating a dedicated corridor connecting these two historic sites.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar played a pivotal role in advancing this initiative, which has been a demand for many years. The integration project, involving the construction of a road and other infrastructure developments, faced challenges due to the separation of the two landmarks by approximately 150 meters of residential properties. Recent directives from the state government have now designated this area for reservation, enabling the land acquisition process to begin.

Survey Identifies 516 Property Owners

A recent survey by the municipal corporation identified the need to acquire 10,942 square meters of land, affecting 516 property owners and 286 tenants.

The municipal authorities will initiate discussions with these stakeholders, aiming to ensure a smooth and fair resettlement process within the same vicinity, as demanded by the residents.

Preliminary discussions will be conducted by officials from the Bhavani Peth Ward Office and the Building Department, followed by further engagement from the municipal commissioner and city engineer.

Phule Wada attracts thousands of visitors annually, especially during the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Phule and Savitribai Phule, celebrated with great enthusiasm.

The Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Memorial, erected by the municipal corporation in the same area, has been a significant draw for visitors from across the state. There has been a consistent demand to connect these two important historical sites.

The state government's recent decision to modify the reservation status for this integration has removed previous obstacles, allowing the project to move forward. The land acquisition and subsequent construction will be managed by the state government, with assurances of appropriate compensation and resettlement for affected residents.

"We are committed to ensuring that the land acquisition and the construction of the memorial proceed smoothly, with fair compensation for all parties involved," stated Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, Municipal Commissioner.
