Pune: In anticipation of increased passenger traffic during the upcoming Ganesh Festival, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced plans to deploy around 800 additional buses in two phases.

These buses, categorized as 'Yatra Special,' are meant to ensure smoother transportation during the festival period, which typically sees a rise in the number of commuters due to the city-wide festivities.

The first phase of extra bus deployment will see 168 additional buses running on September 9, 10, and 16. This will be followed by a larger deployment of 620 additional buses between September 11 and 15.

The PMPML has coordinated this effort to minimize inconvenience to passengers as several central Pune roads will be closed to regular traffic for the festival.

However, the 'Yatra Special' buses will come with an increased fare for those traveling after the second shift. Passengers will have to pay an additional ₹5 for their journey. Furthermore, PMPML has issued a directive that no type of travel pass will be accepted on these buses after midnight.

Public Relations Officer of PMPML, Satish Gate, explained, "To ensure passengers face minimal disruption during the festival, we have organized additional buses on major routes.

As these buses are designated 'Yatra Special,' their ticket prices will be increased by ₹5 after the second shift. No travel passes will be valid for rides after 12 AM."

This move is part of PMPML’s broader strategy to manage the surge in passengers during the Ganesh Festival. With central Pune's main roads being closed for the festivities, PMPML will redirect buses through alternative routes to maintain smooth transportation.

The deployment of extra buses is expected to significantly ease the pressure on the city's public transport system during one of Pune's most important cultural events.
