Pune: Despite the launch of the 'One Pune' card, intended to provide seamless travel across Pune Metro, PMPML buses, and other public transport services, PMPML passengers remain unable to use it.
The card, developed under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) scheme, is only functional for Metro travel, leaving PMPML and rickshaw commuters without access.
Introduced as part of the central government's 'One Nation, One Card' project in 2019, the 'One Pune' card has been adopted by Pune Metro, but integration with PMPML buses and rickshaws is still pending.
While Metro officials claim that their system is ready, they state that PMPML needs to complete the integration process. PMPML officials, on the other hand, mention that Metro ticketing is already accessible through the PMPML app, highlighting the communication gap between the two public transport authorities.
The NCMC card is already in use in several cities across India, with many providing connectivity for public bus services. However, in Pune, the card is currently limited to Metro travel, and passengers are asking when the promised integrated transport system will become a reality.
Earlier discussions between former PMPML chairman Dr. Sanjay Kolte and Metro officials aimed at linking the 'One Pune' card with PMPML's ticketing system seem to have stalled.
While the initial plan was to allow commuters to travel using the same card for both Metro and PMP services, there has been little progress on this front, leaving passengers frustrated.
