Pune: The upcoming visit of President Droupadi Murmu to Pune has prompted the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to begin urgent road repair work on the Ganeshkhind Road stretch between Sancheti Chowk and Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk.

The repair work, conducted on Sunday, September 1, involved leveling the road, filling potholes, and resurfacing with asphalt and concrete. Retired Public Works Department officers were brought in to oversee the project, ensuring the road is ready for the President's visit.

The decision comes after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) raised concerns about the deteriorated condition of the road, which had developed significant potholes due to ongoing metro project work and recent heavy rains.

The PMRDA’s metro project work is ongoing on Ganeshkhind Road. Due to the rain, numerous potholes have developed on this road. President Droupadi Murmu is visiting Pune on Tuesday (September 3).

In light of this, the municipal corporation had informed PMRDA to carry out the road repair work. However, there was no action from PMRDA. Consequently, the municipal corporation undertook the repair work on its own. This move spurred PMRDA into action, with Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase ordering immediate repairs following an inspection.

Accordingly, the engineers of Pune IT City Metro Line (PITCML) and PMRDA inspected the road and carried out the repair and remaining work on Sunday (1st). Before commencing the repair work, the road was leveled and cleaned.

Afterward, the potholes were filled, and the road was resurfaced with asphalt and concrete. Retired officers from the Public Works Department were appointed through PITCML for this work, according to PMRDA's public relations officer, Dr. Dnyaneshwar Bhale.
