Pune: In a significant crackdown, Lonavala police raided a bungalow in the Tungarli area suspected of hosting a large-scale gambling operation.

Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended 14 individuals involved in the illegal activity and seized nearly 3 lakh rupees in cash and gambling paraphernalia.

The raid was conducted after authorities received information about a gambling ring using plastic tokens with face values for card games.

The operation, led by Lonavala City Police Station Inspector Suhas Jagtap, resulted in the arrest of all 14 suspects, who were identified as residents of Mumbai. The suspects have been charged under the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act.

Police Constable Vikas Kadam filed the formal complaint at the Lonavala City Police Station. The seized items, including cash and gambling equipment, have been taken into custody as evidence.

The investigation is ongoing, with officer Shinde leading the efforts under Inspector Jagtap's supervision.

In view of recent prohibitory orders and restrictions at popular destinations, tourists had preferred to stay in private bungalows and rural areas of Lonavala. However, Lonavala Rural police, on July 8, had uncovered an illegal hookah sale operation at a snack center located at Tiger Point in Lonavala.

A case was registered at the Lonavala Rural Police Station against suspect individuals Mangesh Nandu Karale (25, resident of Khandala, Maval) and Rakesh Ganpat Ware (25, resident of Khopoli, Khalapur, Raigad). The complaint was filed by Forest Guard Vedika Shirse.
