Pune: In a severe accident on the Indapur-Baramati road on Sunday (October 13), two drivers were seriously injured when a truck and a dumper collided head-on.

The truck, loaded with pomegranates, caught fire after the crash, but fortunately, the truck driver managed to escape before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Although no lives were lost, both vehicles sustained significant damage due to the fire.

The accident occurred around 6:30 PM on October 13, when a truck carrying pomegranates (registration number RJ 11 GD 0431) was traveling from Phaltan towards Indapur via Baramati.

At the same time, a Hyva dumper (registration number MH04 CU 5944) was heading from Indapur to Nimgav. The two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in serious injuries to both drivers.

Local residents and passersby quickly responded, helping to rescue both injured drivers from the wreckage. The driver of the Hyva dumper sustained a severe leg injury, while the truck driver escaped with minor injuries.

The collision caused a short circuit in the electrical wiring of both vehicles, sparking a fire. The Indapur Municipal Fire Brigade, along with the fire department from Karmayogi Shankarrao Patil Co-operative Sugar Factory, arrived on the scene and successfully extinguished the fire. Quick action by the fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading further.

Police Inspector Suryakant Kokane of the Indapur Police Station arrived at the site shortly after the accident, overseeing the transportation of the injured to the hospital and ensuring that traffic flow was restored.

Inspector Kokane stated that the process of recording statements from the injured drivers had begun.
