Pune: Heavy rains and flooding have severely disrupted power infrastructure in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, and surrounding talukas, including Mulshi, Maval, and Khed.

Many societies' meter boxes were submerged, leading to the suspension of electricity supply to 13 power lines and 699 distribution transformers on Thursday (July 25) to prevent electrical accidents.

Approximately 84,600 consumers experienced power outages due to floodwater damage to the power infrastructure. Restoration efforts by MSEDCL are underway on a war footing, but heavy rains on Thursday afternoon impeded progress.

Power Outages in Central Pune:

In central Pune, power supply was disrupted from Wednesday night to Thursday evening in the Kasba Peth and Tambat Ali areas near Shaniwarwada.

The Market Yard area, including Hamal Nagar, Salisbury Park, and Sandesh Nagar, experienced power outages throughout Wednesday night. Power supply was also disrupted overnight in Shravan Nagar and the surrounding areas of Ghorpadi.

Continuous power outages in many parts of the city caused significant inconvenience to residents. In Baner, water did not reach society tanks due to the lack of electricity, and residents could not access milk and newspapers due to non-functional lifts.

Kothrud-Karvenagar, Erandwane, Laxmi Road, and Tilak Road areas also faced frequent power outages, causing severe hardships for residents. Many citizens reported that they received no response when they tried to contact MSEDCL's call center.

Urban Power Supply Disruptions:

Electricity supply was interrupted in parts of Shivajinagar, Sindh Society, Khadki, Rastapeth, Bhawaninagar, Junabazaar, Kondhwa, Pisoli Road, Khadi Machine Chowk, Wanwadi, Warje, and Karvenagar.

Some areas experienced power cuts due to water entering feeder pillars and branches falling on power lines. MSEDCL stated that restoration efforts are ongoing at a war footing.

Water entering the power infrastructure caused power outages in the Harkul and Ota Scheme areas of Nigdi. Electricity supply to 55 distribution transformers in sectors such as Matoshree Nagar in Sector Four, riverbank areas of Ravet, Sangvi, Hinjewadi, Dapodi, and Khara Lawadi has been suspended.

Major Impact Areas:

In the Maval and Mulshi talukas, the power infrastructure faced severe damage. Alandi city saw the flooding of the Indrayani River, resulting in the shutdown of two transformers and electricity supply to Wadgaon Shinde village.

Along Sinhagad Road, 38 distribution transformers were shut off, affecting societies such as Ektanagari, Pooja Park, Gayatri Apartments, Jaltarang Apartments, and Radhakrishna Residency, among others.

Additionally, 17 distribution transformers in Wadgaon Sheri, Nagar Road, and Vishrantwadi areas also faced power cuts.
