Pune: In preparation for the upcoming assembly elections, the District Election Office of Pune has released the preliminary voter list, indicating a significant increase in the number of voters.
District Collector and District Election Officer Dr. Suhas Divase unveiled the list, which shows the total voter count in the district has reached 8.439 million.
The process of addressing claims and objections on the preliminary list will continue until August 29. Special drives will be held on August 10, 11, 17, and 18 to assist citizens during public holidays.
The final voter list is scheduled for release on August 30. Voters will have the opportunity to register until ten days before the nomination period for the assembly elections.
In an effort to balance the number of voters at each polling station, changes will be made at 662 polling stations throughout the district. Voters affected by these changes will be able to vote in different polling rooms within the same building, as per Dr. Divase.
According to the preliminary list, the voter population in the city and district has surged to 8.439 million, comprising 4.403 million men, 4.035 million women, and 745 third-gender voters.
This marks an increase of 100,000 voters since the Lok Sabha elections, which had a voter count of 8.338 million. The updated list has identified 8,417 polling stations across the district.
