Pune city and its suburbs experienced relentless rainfall throughout Saturday (August 24), causing widespread disruptions and inconveniences to residents. Early morning showers gradually intensified by afternoon, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas and significant traffic congestion during the evening hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city can expect continued rainfall with moderate to heavy showers forecasted for Sunday. The IMD has also issued a 'Red Alert' for the ghat regions surrounding Pune, anticipating extremely heavy rainfall in those areas.

The persistent rains over the past two days escalated on Saturday (August 24as steady showers transformed into a continuous downpour. Areas such as Shaniwar Peth, Deccan, and Patil Estate were particularly affected, with streets flooding and normal life coming to a standstill. The maximum temperature also saw a noticeable drop, recording 26.6 degrees Celsius.

In response to the heavy rainfall, authorities increased the discharge from the Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River basin throughout the day. The discharge rate, which started in the morning, surpassed 20,000 cusecs by evening and reached 31,515 cusecs by 10 PM. The sudden surge in water levels led to flooding on roads adjacent to the riverbanks and resulted in several vehicles being stranded.
