Pune: Chicken Prices Surge, Seafood Supply Stable at Ganesh Peth Market

Chicken prices saw a sharp increase of ₹20 per kilogram, though mutton prices remained stable.

Pune: The Ganesh Peth fish market in Pune witnessed a significant inflow of seafood on Sunday, October 13, with around 15 to 20 tons of deep-sea fish arriving along with 200 to 400 kilograms of both creek and river fish.

Additionally, 20 to 25 tons of Rohu, Katla, and Seelan fish were brought in from Andhra Pradesh.

Despite this steady supply, chicken prices saw a sharp increase of ₹20 per kilogram, though mutton prices remained stable, according to local merchants Thakur Pardeshi, Rupesh Pardeshi, and Prabhakar Kamble.

In terms of pricing, deep-sea fish like pomfret, surmai, and prawns fetched the highest rates. Large pomfret sold for ₹1300 to ₹1600 per kilogram, while jumbo prawns were priced at ₹1500 to ₹1600 per kilogram.

Creek fish like bangda and tamboshi, as well as river fish such as rohu and katla, were available at more affordable rates, with rohu and katla priced between ₹160 and ₹180 per kilogram.

The rise in chicken prices is notable, with standard chicken now priced at ₹220 per kilogram, while boneless chicken reached ₹320 per kilogram. On the other hand, mutton prices held steady, with goat meat, mince, and liver all priced at ₹740 per kilogram.

For eggs, local eggs were sold at ₹920 per 100, and English eggs were priced at ₹560 per 100, with individual eggs costing ₹10 and ₹6.50 respectively.
