Pune: A police officer from the Pune Police Force, Vikram Ganpat Phadtare, has been dismissed following an investigation that confirmed his involvement in a murder related to a dispute over ancestral land. The order was issued by Additional Police Commissioner (Administration) Arvind Chavariya.

The dismissed officer is identified as Vikram Ganpat Phadtare, who was stationed at the Pune Police Headquarters. Phadtare hails from Sangvi in Baramati Taluka and was embroiled in a dispute over ancestral land with his relatives.

On April 12, 2023, Vikram's brother, Vishal Phadtare, murdered their relative Vinod Hirachand Phadtare due to this dispute. Vishal is the main accused in the case, with Vikram and their father, Ganpat Phadtare, also charged. Vikram Phadtare was arrested and is currently held in Yerawada Jail.

The Pune Police conducted a departmental inquiry into Officer Phadtare's involvement. The inquiry concluded that Vikram conspired with his father and brother to murder Vinod Phadtare.

Additional Police Commissioner Chavariya noted that Vikram Phadtare's actions tarnished the image of the police force and disrupted its discipline. As a result, he ordered Phadtare's dismissal from the police force.

In another incident, a police sub-inspector Kashinath Maruti Ubhe stationed at the Pune Police Headquarters has been booked in an extortion case.

Three women were arrested for allegedly taking an elderly man to a lodge, threatening him with false charges of abuse, and demanding five lakh rupees in extortion. Their fourth accomplice was identified as Police Sub-Inspector from the Pune Police Headquarters.
