Pune: As the nomination filing process for the assembly elections intensifies, Pune district has witnessed an impressive rush for nomination forms.
By the fourth day, a cumulative 1,671 forms have been collected by 818 candidates across 21 assembly constituencies, as reported by the district election administration.
While final candidacies are still pending announcements from several major political parties, this high level of interest has been most visible in constituencies like Hadapsar, Kothrud, Chinchwad, Pimpri, and Cantonment, where demand for nomination forms is at its peak.
The nomination process officially began on October 22, and candidates have until October 29 to file. On Friday, the fourth day of the form collection period, 168 candidates took 298 forms.
Constituencies with the highest demand included Hadapsar with 26 forms, Kothrud with 24, and Chinchwad with 24. Meanwhile, Kasba Peth and Ambegaon saw the fewest collections, with only four forms taken in each.
In key developments, NCP candidate Dattatraya Bharne filed his nomination in Indapur, while Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s Kishor Shinde submitted his papers in Kothrud.
District election authorities expect a surge in the collection and submission of forms in the final days leading up to the October 29 deadline, particularly as party nominations become finalized.
