Pune: The families of victims killed in accidents involving heavy vehicles are expressing their anguish and disappointment with the system.

Suresh Manwane, father of Aarti, who was killed in an accident with a concrete mixer truck near Kothrud bus station, expressed his frustration, saying, "After the driver was arrested, he received bail the very next day. We expected justice from the system, but all we have faced is disappointment. No one even offered an apology or condolences."

Similarly, Geetanjali Amarale lost her life when a drunk driver hit her two-wheeler near Paud Phata.

Her husband, Shrikant Amarale, mourned the loss, saying, "This accident has destroyed my family. My children have lost their mother, and nothing in this world can replace her love. While the driver may be arrested and punished, our loved one will never come back. We must work to prevent such tragedies from happening to anyone else."

These tragic incidents have highlighted the need for stricter regulations on heavy vehicle operations and the need for proper driver training. Pune residents have raised concerns about the reckless behavior of heavy vehicle drivers and the lack of strict enforcement of rules.

Some residents, like Ajay Bhagwat from Kothrud, believe that instead of banning heavy vehicles, the authorities should focus on equipping them with safety measures and ensuring that only highly trained drivers operate them.

Sanjay Kale, also from Kothrud, suggests that the city should prioritize installing better street lighting and fixing road conditions to prevent accidents.

Others, such as Manohar Joshi, propose restricting the movement of heavy vehicles to late-night hours to reduce accidents, while Rajesh Bobde from Narhe highlights the overwhelming presence of dump trucks and construction vehicles, which have made the roads unsafe for residents.

Several citizens have taken to social media platforms like Twitter to demand action from the authorities, urging Pune police to crack down on heavy vehicle violations.
