Pune Flood Alert: Khadakwasla Dam Water Discharge increased to 13981 cusecs

The release may be adjusted based on rainfall and inflow, according to the Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division.

Pune: With heavy rains lashing the catchment areas of dams in Pune district since Tuesday (July 30) night, the administration has announced that the water release from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River will be increased to 13,981 cusecs at 9 AM on Wednesday (July 31).

The release may be adjusted based on rainfall and inflow, according to the Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Sub-Division.

Similarly, the Mulshi Dam's release into the Mula River will be increased from 2,460 cusecs to 6,051 cusecs at 9 AM. Adjustments may be made as necessary.

The Wadivale Dam will reduce its release into the Kundali River from 2,172 cusecs to 1,124 cusecs at 8:30 AM today, with potential adjustments based on ongoing rainfall.

Heavy rainfall began at midnight in Mumbai and Pune. In Navi Mumbai, rain resumed after a two-day break, with varying intensity across different areas. Pune, which had seen a lull in rainfall over the past two days, experienced heavy rain from midnight onwards.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an 'Orange Alert' for Pune, predicting heavy rain over the next three days starting Thursday, and a 'Yellow Alert' for today.

In terms of July's rainfall, Pune received 114.1 mm in 24 hours last Thursday. The following five days saw a decrease in intensity, with 76.8 mm recorded over four days.

This year's rainfall is 286.8 mm above average. Typically, Pune district receives 300.6 mm of rain from July 1 to 30, but this year, it recorded 594.9 mm.
