Pune: Continuous heavy rains over the past two days have resulted in a severe flood situation in Pune city and district, causing significant financial losses to many families.

The district administration has started the process of damage assessment, deploying sixteen teams for Pune city and mobilizing tehsildars for rural areas.

The torrential downpour that began on Wednesday (July 24) night and continued throughout Thursday (July 25) led to widespread flooding. Large water discharges into the Mutha River caused inundation in several societies along Sinhagad Road.

Various parts of the city and surrounding rural areas were severely impacted, with landslides forcing the closure of seven highways. The calamity has claimed four lives in the city and district.

With the rains easing on Friday (July 26), the district administration has initiated the assessment of damages.

District Collector Dr. Suhas Divase said, “Sixteen teams have been formed to carry out assessments in Pune city, with eight teams each for Pune city and Haveli. These teams include representatives from the revenue department, municipal corporation, and housing societies.

They have started assessing the damage in the affected areas of the city. Similarly, at the tehsil level, teams have been formed to conduct assessments in Maval, Mulshi, Bhor, Velha, and Ambegaon.”

The assessments will determine the extent of damage to homes, livestock losses, and crop damage. A preliminary report based on these assessments will be sent to the state government for compensation.
