Pune: In response to the escalating flood situation, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has successfully relocated over 1,500 residents from flood-prone areas along the riverbanks. Due to the prompt and coordinated efforts by the municipal administration, citizens received timely assistance.

The release of water from Khadakwasla and Pavana dams on Sunday (August 4) caused the Mula-Mutha River to rise swiftly, leading to water intrusion in riverside societies and settlements by the morning.

The municipal administration had preemptively warned residents about the impending floodwaters. Regional offices, disaster management officers, staff, fire brigade personnel, and PMRDA were present in the affected areas to provide assistance.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, along with senior officials, closely monitored the situation since Saturday midnight and diligently worked to aid the flood-affected citizens.

Residents from areas including Ekta Nagar, Tadiwala Road, Mula Road, Shantinagar Slum, Indiranagar Slum, Chima Garden, Yashwant Nagri Kals, Sainath Nagar Wadgaon Sheri, Pulachiwadi, Patil Estate Slum, Rajput Slum, Tapodham Indira Nagar Settlement, Narayan Peth, Amruteshwar Ghat, Mangalwar Peth, Shramik Nagar Dattawadi, Bopodi, and Balewadi Village were relocated to nearby municipal schools via PMP buses for temporary shelter.

Arrangements for meals and snacks were made at these locations. Around 1,500 people from 387 families were moved to nearby schools. This information was provided by Ganesh Sonune, an official from the Municipal Disaster Management Cell.

PMRDA Relocates 225 Families

In a parallel effort, the PMRDA team also relocated riverside residents to safe locations, ensuring their safety. The PMRDA team moved residents from Vishrantwadi Shantinagar and Ekta Nagar to secure sites.

By 6 PM on Sunday (August 4), around 225 families were accommodated in nearby schools and community centers, with provisions for food and snacks.
