Pune Ganpati Visarjan: Traffic Restrictions and Parking Bans in Place

Shivraj Sanas

Pune: In preparation for the grand Ganesh immersion procession on Tuesday, September 17, the Pune traffic police have announced several changes to the city’s traffic system.

Seventeen major roads in the city center will be closed to vehicles to ensure the smooth flow of the procession, which is a deeply rooted tradition in Pune’s cultural history.

The procession will begin at 10:30 AM and will involve major roads such as Laxmi Road, Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, Lokmanya Tilak Road, Lalbahadur Shastri Road, and several others, which will remain closed to traffic until the end of the event.

Once the procession concludes, these roads will be reopened to the public, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amol Zende.

Key traffic diversion points have been set up at major junctions, including Jhansi Rani Chowk, Kakasheb Gadgil Statue on Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, Sant Kabir Police Chowki on Laxmi Road, and several other points to reroute vehicles away from the procession route.

No Parking Along the Procession Route

To further manage traffic and avoid congestion, parking has been banned along the roads where the procession will take place, including Laxmi Road, Kelkar Road, Bajirao Road, and others. Vehicles will not be allowed to park on side streets between Khandojibaba Chowk and Vaishali Hotel Chowk either.

48-Hour Ban on Heavy Vehicles

Additionally, a 48-hour ban on heavy vehicles has been put in place starting from midnight on Monday to ensure that the immersion procession moves smoothly. Normal traffic flow is expected to resume once the event concludes.

Circular Routes for Traffic Movement

To facilitate vehicular movement during the event, the police have also introduced special circular routes, including Karve Road, Nal Stop Chowk, Law College Road, Senapati Bapat Road, Ganeshkhind Road, and several others.
