Pune: Increase in Vehicle Thefts, 11 Two-Wheelers and 2 Rickshaws Missing

Pune: The city has witnessed a concerning rise in vehicle thefts, with recent reports indicating that 11 two-wheelers and two auto-rickshaws were stolen in just the last two days.

The thefts have occurred in various neighborhoods, including Chandan Nagar, Chatuhshrungi, Swargate, Sinhagad Road, Lonikand, and Hadapsar. Law enforcement officials note a significant increase in vehicle thefts during the festive season.

The rate of vehicle thefts reported across the city has escalated, with a minimum of four to five vehicles stolen daily, primarily consisting of two-wheelers.

Thieves are increasingly targeting motorcycles parked in front of residential societies, educational institutions, and commercial complexes.

For instance, a complaint was lodged at the Sinhagad Road police station by Kiran Kadam (age 38) regarding the theft of a motorcycle parked outside the Yashada study center near Dhayari Phata.

Similarly, a motorcycle was reported stolen from near the Prime Rose Society in Chatuhshrungi, with Rahul Galande (age 30) filing a formal complaint.

Additional theft incidents have emerged in the Pashan area, leading to two separate cases registered at the Chatuhshrungi police station. One noteworthy incident involved the theft of an auto-rickshaw from in front of the Venkatesh hostel on Old Mundhwa Road, reported by Parameshwar Ghule (age 22) at the Chandan Nagar police station.

In another case, an auto-rickshaw that was parked for repairs at a garage along the Kharadi outer ring road was stolen, with Siddaram Balshankar (age 46) filing a complaint.

The police also reported incidents of theft involving automobiles. In the Tilak Road area, thieves broke the window of a parked car and stole a laptop.

In a separate case at Seven Love’s Chowk on Shankarsheth Road, thieves similarly broke into another car, stealing a laptop and important documents. These incidents have led to two independent cases being registered at the Swargate police station.
