Pune: A trial run of the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express was successfully conducted between Kolhapur and Pune on Saturday (September 14).
Capable of achieving speeds up to 180 km/h, the train has been restricted to 110 km/h for this route. The trial demonstrated the train's excellent acceleration, reaching 110 km/h within 40 seconds, and its riding index of 2.5 is among the best in the country, ensuring both speed and passenger comfort.
The eight-coach train began its journey from Kolhapur at 10:30 a.m., making scheduled stops at various stations and adhering to speed limits throughout the trial run. It arrived at Pune's Platform 1 at precisely 4:16 p.m.
Officials from the Pune division, including Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey, as well as representatives of the manufacturing company, were present during the trial.
Following the successful run, the Vande Bharat Express was moved to Mumbai Yard No. 1. The official inauguration is set to take place on Monday, September 16, marking a significant milestone for Indian Railways as the Vande Bharat is set to enhance the travel experience with its speed and comfort.
Driver Training Due to its unique design and operational systems, 20 drivers from the Pune division received specialized training to operate the Vande Bharat Express.
These drivers will be responsible for operating the train on routes between Pune-Kolhapur and Pune-Hubli, with crew changes occurring at Miraj station.
Distinct Features of Vande Bharat Express
One of the standout features of the train is its ability to accelerate to 110 km/h within just 40 seconds. Its high tensile bogies ensure a comfortable ride, while its Emergency Braking Distance (EBD) is 270 meters, ensuring passenger safety.
Passenger Services to Begin on September 18 The Vande Bharat Express will begin regular passenger services from Wednesday, September 18. Reservations for the train will be available starting Sunday.
The train is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Pune, Kolhapur, and Hubli, offering passengers a faster and more comfortable alternative to existing trains.
