Pune: A 29-year-old man was brutally beaten to death near Dandekar Bridge on Monday evening over suspicions that he was in a romantic relationship with a young woman from the accused's family.
The victim, Kaustubh Jaydeep Naik, a resident of Sadashiv Peth, was attacked by a group of assailants, allegedly led by the brother of the woman with whom Kaustubh was involved.
According to the police, the accused had become enraged after Kaustubh threatened to elope with his sister. As a result, the accused summoned Kaustubh to the Dandekar Bridge area on Monday evening.
Upon his arrival, Kaustubh was violently assaulted by the accused and his accomplices, who repeatedly kicked and punched him. The severely injured victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before receiving any medical treatment.
A murder case has been registered at Parvati Police Station based on a complaint filed by Pankaj Nangare, a local resident. The police have launched an investigation and are pursuing the accused.
This incident is part of a disturbing trend in Pune, where three murders have occurred in the last two days. In the Hadapsar area, a man was killed over a financial dispute, and his body was found dumped near a canal.
On Sunday midnight, another murder occurred in Dhanori, Vishrantwadi, where a woman was killed by a blow to the head with a gas cylinder, allegedly due to suspicions about her character.
The killing of Kaustubh on Monday evening marks the third violent death linked to personal disputes in the span of 48 hours.
