Pune: Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation and MP Murlidhar Mohol took a detailed review of the ongoing work of Swargate Metro Station.

After the review Mohol announced that the much-anticipated District Court to Swargate underground metro route, part of the larger PCMC-Swargate metro line, is expected to commence operations within the next few days.

This development comes as the final phase of construction nears completion, with only a few technical approvals pending. The review was conducted at Swargate Metro Station by Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of MahaMetro, in presence of Mohol and along with other senior officials. Parvati constituency MLA Madhuri Misal was also present during the review.

The new 6-kilometer underground metro route, connecting key areas like Kasba Peth, Mandai, and Swargate, has already seen the completion of its major construction works.

The process of renaming certain metro stations along this route has been finalized, with the official Gazette notification expected to be published shortly. The inauguration of this vital metro corridor, which will significantly ease traffic congestion and improve public transport connectivity in Pune, is expected soon.

In addition to the inauguration of the District Court-Swargate route, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Swargate-Katraj underground metro route is also scheduled to take place simultaneously.

This new metro line, which has received approval from the Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is expected to further enhance Pune’s metro network, offering more efficient transit options for residents in the southern part of the city.

Furthermore, the Vanaz to Ramwadi metro route, which is already fully operational, has been well-received by Pune residents, who are utilizing it extensively.

The broader PCMC to Swargate metro line, spanning 17.5 kilometers, is 90% complete, with the final segment from Civil Court to Swargate in the advanced stages of construction. Once completed, this route will provide a seamless metro experience across major parts of the city.

Looking ahead, MahaMetro is also focused on securing the necessary approvals for the proposed metro extensions from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and from Ramwadi to Wagholi.

These extensions are expected to further enhance the city’s metro infrastructure, providing residents with even more comprehensive public transport options in the near future.
