Pune: In anticipation of the heavy influx of visitors during the Ganeshotsav festival, Pune Metro has decided to extend its operating hours until midnight, with additional trips scheduled to manage the increased passenger load.

This initiative is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city, providing much-needed relief to both residents and visitors who travel to witness the vibrant public Ganesh mandals.

The metro's extended service will be particularly beneficial on Anant Chaturdashi (17th September), when the metro will run non-stop for 24 hours, from 6 AM on the 17th to 6 AM on the 18th of September (Wednesday).

On the preceding weekend, specifically on Saturday (7th September) and Monday (9th September), metro services will operate from 6 AM to 11 PM.

During the peak festival week, from Tuesday (10th September) to Monday (16th September), the metro will run from 6 AM to midnight, ensuring late-night connectivity for commuters.

Following Anant Chaturdashi, on Wednesday (18th September), the metro will resume its regular schedule, operating from 6 AM to 10 PM. Over these two days, the metro will offer an uninterrupted 40-hour service window, catering to the expected surge in commuter demand.

Pune Metro has encouraged passengers to utilize the extended service hours for a smoother and more convenient travel experience during the festivities.

This decision comes as a strategic measure to handle the increased passenger numbers as visitors flood Pune to participate in the Ganeshotsav celebrations.

The extended metro services will not only help manage the festive rush but also aim to decongest city roads, which have traditionally faced significant traffic challenges during this period.
