Pune: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has initiated the process of transferring 15 designated locations needed for Pune Metro's Swargate to PCMC route extension, reaching up to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi, in coordination with the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited.

A recent meeting, chaired by Commissioner Shekhar Singh, discussed the land transfers, ensuring that the expansion progresses without any hindrances.

The MahaMetro requires six locations at the Nigdi Bus Terminal, vacant spaces and footpath areas in Nigdi, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad School in Akurdi, and five different footpath locations.

The process of acquiring land from MIDC and private landowners is also ongoing. On the lands received by the municipal corporation, metro tracks, stations, station entrances, stairs, and lifts will be constructed.

Previously, in 2018, the municipal corporation had transferred 10 locations for the Dapodi to PCMC metro route. Now, the extension from PCMC to Nigdi will involve transferring 15 more locations, including sites in Akurdi, Nigdi, and Chinchwad.

The metro expansion aims to utilize these lands not only for tracks and stations but also for commercial purposes to ensure financial viability.

The Pune Metro's Swargate to PCMC route is set for a significant extension, reaching up to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi. This development comes as part of the government's approval for expanding the metro network from PCMC to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj. The stretch from Nigdi to Shivajinagar will be elevated, while the route from Shivajinagar to Katraj will be underground.

The proposed extension will cover 4.41 kilometers, with key stations planned at Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhakti-Shakti Chowk. The process of acquiring additional land from MIDC and private owners is also ongoing, with a focus on meeting the metro's infrastructure needs efficiently.

Planned Details

  • The metro route will be extended 4.41 kilometers from PCMC station (Sant Mother Teresa Flyover) to Nigdi.

  • The first pillar in Bhakti-Shakti Chowk, Nigdi, has been erected.

  • There will be four stations on the Pimpri-Nigdi route: Chinchwad Station, Akurdi Khandooba Mal, Tilak Station in Nigdi, and Bhakti-Shakti Chowk.

  • For station construction, the metro requires land on both sides of the service roads and footpaths at the respective locations.

Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner, Land and Estate Department, Municipal Corporation stated, "A meeting between the key officials of the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has been held. The process of land transfer is smoothly progressing between the two entities to provide the necessary land to the metro. There is no obstacle in the PCMC to Nigdi metro route."
