Pune residents will soon be able to monitor noise pollution levels in real-time, thanks to a new initiative by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
The Board is set to install digital boards at four major locations in the city to display live data on noise pollution levels, marking a significant step towards raising public awareness about the health hazards of noise pollution.
Many citizens often complain about the noise from vehicles and other sources, but few are aware of how high these noise levels can get.
Noise pollution has been linked to several health issues, including headaches, hearing impairment, high blood pressure, heart diseases, and sleep disturbances.
With the installation of these digital boards, Pune residents will now be able to monitor noise pollution levels in their surroundings.
The installation of these boards is in its final phase, and they will soon be operational. The boards will be located at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, the District Collector's Office, Tata Honeywell Company in Hadapsar, and Indradhanush Office in Navi Peth.
These locations are key areas with high traffic and human activity, making them ideal for monitoring noise pollution.
MPCB's Field Officer Jyoti Sutar explained that these digital boards will not only display the real-time noise levels but also provide information about the maximum permissible noise limits for each area. This initiative aims to educate citizens about the levels of noise pollution and encourage measures to reduce its impact.
In addition to noise monitoring, Pune already has three digital boards displaying air quality levels. These boards help residents understand the current state of air pollution through the Air Quality Index (AQI), which is essential for making informed decisions about outdoor activities.
The MPCB is also planning to install two additional air quality monitoring boards at the Naidu Sewage Treatment Plant in Sangamwadi and the P.L. Deshpande Garden on Sinhagad Road.
This combined effort to monitor both noise and air quality is a part of MPCB's larger initiative to improve public awareness and the overall environmental health of Pune.
