Pune: At the inauguration of the 30th Pune Navratri Festival, Alka Lamba, President of the All India Congress Committee, emphasized the importance of respecting and safeguarding women, declaring it the true essence of Shakti worship.

Speaking as the chief guest, Lamba stated that ensuring the dignity and honor of women is essential for societal change.

The Navratri festival, guided by Aba Bagul and Jayshree Bagul, began early Thursday with the Ghatasthapana ritual at the Laxmi Mata Temple in Shivdarshan.

The formal inauguration followed at Ganesh Kala Krida Mancha, attended by several political leaders and notable figures, including former Minister Vishwajeet Kadam and senior Gandhian thinker Ulhas Pawar.

Lamba addressed the audience, urging society to teach men to respect women within their households.

She expressed concern over the rising incidents of sexual violence against girls, stating that while we worship the goddess in her powerful forms during Navratri, the ongoing assaults on women and girls present a stark contrast.

She called for a collective effort to change men's attitudes, as only a change in mindset can bring about meaningful action.

In addition to her strong social message, Lamba praised Aba Bagul's commitment to public service, noting the energy and dedication he brings to his role as a corporator.

Lamba and other attendees lauded Bagul’s work in maintaining his ward and fostering community spirit through the annual Navratri festival.

The event also featured the presentation of the prestigious ‘Shri Laxmi Mata Jeevan Gaurav Award’ to individuals who have made significant contributions in various fields.

Honorees included journalist Rajiv Khandekar, former MP Vandana Chavan, speaker Nitin Bangude-Patil, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Sanjeev Choudhary, musician Anandi Vikas, and Lavani folk artist Hindavi Patil.
