Pune: In a shocking incident in Yerawada’s Ashok Nagar area on Thursday (October 31) night, a man lost his life after a retired military officer allegedly shot him during a dispute over motorcycle parking.

The incident, which took place around 11:30 p.m. amid Diwali festivities, has left residents shaken and fearful.

According to police reports, the altercation started when a disagreement arose between two individuals over a motorcycle parked in a housing society’s designated area.

During the heated exchange, the retired officer pulled out his firearm and shot the victim, who was critically injured. The victim was immediately transported to Sassoon Hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav confirmed the arrest of the retired officer in connection with the shooting.

Parking-related disputes have become increasingly common in housing societies, where a lack of structured parking management often leads to confrontations.

Vehicles are frequently parked without permission, causing conflicts among residents.

Poorly managed parking allocations and minimal security oversight contribute to these rising tensions, with homeowners and visiting drivers often disregarding established rules, leading to further issues within the community.

Recently, an assault case was been registered at the Ravet police station, nearly a year after an altercation incident had occurred. The case was filed following a directive from the Vadgaon Maval Court.

The victim, General Singh Boparai (55), a resident of Celestial City, Mukai Chowk, had sustained serious injuries, including a fractured rib, after being attacked with a baseball bat during an altercation in the parking area of his residential society.

The incident dates back to the night of September 19, 2023, when Boparai was attempting to park his car in the society’s parking lot.
