Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has announced a ban on the use of laser beams during the city's Ganesh immersion processions, following reports of eye injuries caused by these lights in previous years. The Commissioner warned that strict action will be taken against anyone who violates this directive.

Ahead of Ganeshotsav, a meeting of office bearers from public Ganesh mandals in the city was held at the police headquarters on Monday (August 12).

This was followed by another meeting on Tuesday (August 13) with representatives from the prestigious mandals at the Police Commissionerate. After this meeting, the Police Commissioner addressed the media.

Last year’s immersion procession saw widespread use of laser beams, causing discomfort and eye injuries to several participants. Complaints were also raised regarding the excessive use of loudspeakers.

Commissioner Kumar has now banned the use of laser beams in the immersion procession. He also emphasized the importance of adhering to the Supreme Court's guidelines on the use of loudspeakers.

Discussions will be held with sound equipment suppliers to ensure compliance, and a meeting with DJ technicians will be organized soon.

Additionally, the Commissioner mentioned that there will be discussions with the mandals regarding the number of processional bands, the number of musicians, and the duration of performances at major intersections during the immersion procession.

The police will also engage with the representatives of the Dhol-Tasha Federation, and a separate meeting will be arranged.
