Pune Police Crime Branch Arrests Gangster with Illegal Pistol in Gultekdi

Shivraj Sanas

Pune Police Crime Branch arrested a 19-year-old gangster named Sajjan Sunil Jadhav for illegally possessing a firearm in the Gultekdi area of Pune.

Jadhav, a resident of Dange Chowk, Pimpri, originally hailing from Mahabaleshwar, was found with a locally made pistol and a cartridge. Jadhav is a known habitual offender with multiple serious charges filed against him at various police stations.

The arrest occurred during a routine patrol by Unit Two of the Crime Branch as part of security measures ahead of the upcoming legislative assembly elections.

Police Constables Ujwal Mokashi and Shankar Kumbhar received information about Jadhav carrying an illegal firearm and, acting swiftly, the team set up a trap in the Dias Plot area of Gultekdi to apprehend him. Upon searching Jadhav, the police recovered the locally made pistol and a cartridge.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Nikhil Pingale and Assistant Commissioner Ganesh Ingle. It was executed by a team led by Police Inspector Pratap Mankar, including Assistant Inspector Amol Rasal, Ashish Kavathekar, Sub-Inspector Nitin Kamble, and others.

The police have reported that gangsters in Pune often source pistols from Madhya Pradesh. In a previous case, criminals selling such locally made pistols were arrested.

On September 1, former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Vanraj Andekar was shot dead in Nana Peth using a pistol obtained from Madhya Pradesh. In connection with the Andekar murder case, police had seized seven pistols, cartridges, and machetes.
