Pune police have detained three suspects in connection with the murder case of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Vanraj Andekar.

Andekar was shot dead in the Nana Peth area of Pune on Sunday (September 1) night. Preliminary investigations indicate that the attack may have been fueled by a family dispute and financial issues.

The incident occurred around 9:30 PM when Andekar was standing at Imanadar Chowk with his cousin. Unknown assailants suddenly attacked him, first using a sharp weapon and then firing five rounds from a pistol.

Critically injured, Andekar was rushed to King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital, but he died before reaching the hospital.

Pune's Joint Commissioner of Police, Ranjankumar Sharma, confirmed the details of the attack, noting that both bullets and sharp weapons were used. The police acted swiftly, detaining three individuals for questioning, with further investigations ongoing.

After the attack, the assailants fled, and the police are actively working to gather more information from the detained suspects. Additional suspects have also been called in for questioning. The investigation is being conducted by a special team that includes officers from the Crime Branch.

Andekar, who was well-known in the Pune Municipal Corporation, leaves behind a grieving family. The police have increased security across the city and urged the public to remain calm.

The incident has created a tense atmosphere among local residents, but the police are confident that the culprits will be caught and justice will be served.
