Pune police have intensified security measures across the city’s prominent temples to ensure the safety and convenience of the large influx of devotees expected during the auspicious Sharadiya Navratri festivities.
Significant police presence has been established around key religious sites, including the Shri Tambdi Jogeshwari Temple, Shri Chatuhshrungi Temple, Shri Bhavani Mata Temple in Bhavani Peth, and the Shri Mahalaxmi Temple in Sarasbaug.
To assist the devotees, the police have set up help desks in the vicinity of these major temples. In response to the anticipated crowds, law enforcement has advised temple administrations to implement separate queues for men and women, facilitating smoother access to darshan (viewing of the deities).
In addition to these arrangements, police have also issued directives for the installation of CCTV cameras within temple premises to deter theft. The festival is known for drawing a significant number of women, which unfortunately correlates with increased incidents of theft involving jewelry, mobile phones, and cash.
To combat this, local police officers, alongside teams from the crime branch, will actively patrol the temple areas to maintain safety.
Recognizing the likelihood of heavy crowds, the police department has announced that traffic management will be adjusted around temple neighborhoods to ensure smooth flow and minimize congestion.
Officers from the Pune police's special branch confirmed that security will be in place in and around temple areas up to the Dussehra festival.
The Navratri celebrations are a major event for the community, with public organizations hosting large-scale festivities, further necessitating the heightened police presence.
