Pune: The victim families of the tragic Porsche car accident in Pune's Kalyani Nagar, which resulted in the death of two individuals, met with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on June 24.
The meeting took place at the Chief Minister's residence, 'Varsha' in Mumbai, where discussions about the investigation were held, and the Chief Minister offered his condolences.
Chief Minister Shinde assured the families of strict action against the accused and promised justice. He acknowledged the accident as tragic and reiterated the commitment to ensuring accountability and support for the bereaved families.
The minor driver responsible for the accident has been sent to a juvenile correctional facility. In connection with the incident, the police have also arrested the minor's father, grandfather, and mother. Despite the juvenile's father being granted bail recently, his release was not processed due to involvement in other criminal cases.
The case has unveiled multiple shocking details. Allegations have surfaced that there was an attempt to switch the driver of the Porsche after the accident. Additionally, it was discovered that the blood samples of the accused were tampered with. This led to the arrest of two doctors from Sassoon Hospital for their involvement in the tampering.
The victims, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, were both young professionals working in the IT sector. Anish, 24, had completed his engineering studies in Pune and had been working in the IT field for several years.
Ashwini Costa, his friend and colleague, worked in the same company. They were returning from dinner with friends on a bike when the speeding Porsche hit them, resulting in their immediate deaths.
Mumbai High Court on June 21 had expressed strong criticism of the Pune Police's handling of the Porsche accident case, particularly questioning the procedural lapses concerning the minor accused. The bench, led by Justice Bharti Dangre, had inquired under which law the minor was granted bail and the reasons for his subsequent re-arrest.
