Pune: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced in the Legislative Assembly that 40 kilometers of the 128.08-kilometer-long, 65-meter-wide ring road under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been transferred to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for development.
Shinde also mentioned that the detailed project report and land acquisition proposal for the PMRDA’s ring road are progressing well.
Responding to questions posed by legislators during the assembly session, Chief Minister Shinde acknowledged that despite eight years of PMRDA's establishment, key projects like the metro, ring road, and town planning schemes (TP Schemes) are not yet completed. However, he highlighted ongoing efforts and progress in several areas.
He stated, “PMRDA is actively working on six town planning schemes. Additionally, the metro line from Maan-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar is under construction, with 38.92 per cent of the work completed so far.
The Mhalunge-Maan town planning scheme number one received administrative approval on May 18, 2018, with a sanctioned budget of ₹616.90 crores. For the fiscal year 2023-24, ₹275 crores have been allocated for town planning schemes one to six.”
Shinde further explained that PMRDA is deploying experienced technical and non-technical officers on deputation as per the approved plan. Experts and experienced consultants are being appointed for necessary projects to accelerate development work.
Additionally, GIS-based technology is being utilized, with a dedicated cell established for this purpose.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) needs a total of 1,653 hectares of land for the 136-kilometer-long road. As of now, approximately 1,190 hectares, or 72 per cent of the required land, has been acquired, paving the way for the project's groundbreaking ceremony soon.
The MSRDC is investing around ₹10500 crore to construct the Pune Ring Road. Additionally, acquiring private, government, and forest land posed significant challenges.
However, MSRDC has successfully acquired 984 hectares of private land, 69 hectares of government land, and 137 hectares of forest land, totaling 1,190 hectares.
