Pune Rural Police Seek Adult Charges for Minor Accused of Raping Toddler

Pune Rural SP Deshmukh visited the Rajgad police station to review the case and instructed officers to take stringent action.

Pune Rural Police Superintendent Pankaj Deshmukh has informed that his team is requesting the Juvenile Justice Board to treat the accused in the 2-year-old girl sexual assault case, as an adult.

A disturbing incident of alleged sexual assault on a two-year-old girl by a minor boy was reported in Bhor taluka. The accused, also a minor, was been taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to police officials, the incident occurred on September 17, around 8 am, in a village along the Pune-Satara highway. The victim's mother was washing clothes when the accused allegedly lured the child to his house and committed the crime.

The girl's cries alerted her mother, who rushed to the accused's house but found the door locked. The accused allegedly escaped after threatening the mother. Police arrested the accused with the help of local residents. The incident has sparked outrage, with locals demanding justice for the victim and her family.

Deshmukh visited the Rajgad police station to review the case and instructed officers to take stringent action. "The accused was arrested and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, which ordered his transfer to a rehabilitation center," he said.

The police chief appreciated the timely action taken by officers, stating, "From registering the complaint to arresting the accused, everything was done promptly." Deshmukh emphasized the rising incidents of child abuse in the district and assured stern action against perpetrators.

The accused, a minor, was apprehended and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
