Pune: In an effort to provide relief to citizens from traffic congestion, the Traffic Branch and the Municipal Corporation are set to launch an innovative plan to improve traffic flow at 32 major intersections in the city.

As part of this initiative, a dedicated mobile app will be developed in collaboration with Google for traffic management. This information was shared by Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil and Municipal Corporation's Chief Engineer Aniruddha Pavaskar during a press conference on Thursday (18th).

The primary roads in the city experience significant traffic congestion, slowing down the overall traffic flow and affecting internal roads. To mitigate this, several measures will be implemented, including intersection improvements, updated signal systems, parking management, installation of speed bumps, road design enhancements, removal of encroachments, installation of traffic control devices, completion of missing links, repair of waterlogged roads, creation of no-hawker zones, and action against establishments obstructing roads.

Mobile App for Traffic Management

A dedicated mobile app will be developed by the Traffic Branch and the Municipal Corporation to plan and implement improvements on major roads. This app will also be used to address citizens' issues and assist in planning.

Efforts to Reduce Accidents

To provide crucial information on parking arrangements, traffic congestion, changes in traffic, bus stops, auto stands, and PMP stops, a contract will be established with Google.

Measures will also be taken to reduce the number of accidents caused by human and engineering errors. The Save Life Foundation will be consulted for analyzing the time taken to receive medical treatment for the injured, as stated by Additional Commissioner Patil.

Planned Measures

  • Increasing traffic speed from 10 km/h to 20 km/h.

  • Addressing encroachments, potholes, U-turns, and updated signal systems.

  • Collaborative efforts by all departments and regional offices of the city’s traffic branch.

  • Resolving traffic congestion and complaints through the app.

  • Enhancing road capacity for traffic.
