Raat Rani: Night Bus Service Launched in Pimpri-Chinchwad by PMPML

Shivraj Sanas

Pune: The PMPML administration has decided to introduce the Raatrani night bus service in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Initially, this service will operate on the route from Pune Station to Nigdi.

The schedule will be planned considering the timings of night trains, ST buses, and other travel services. This decision was announced by PMPML Chairman Sanjay Kolte. The new service aims to alleviate the inconvenience faced by late-night travelers.

Due to the industrial growth in Pimpri-Chinchwad, many people from across the state and the country have settled here for jobs and businesses. Many of these residents frequently travel out of town, using ST buses, trains, and other travel services.

However, passengers often face difficulties with late-night travel within the city. Since express trains do not stop at Pimpri and Chinchwad stations, passengers have to disembark at Pune Station.

Similarly, some ST buses go directly to Shivajinagar Depot without stopping at Vallabhnagar. The last bus from Nigdi departs at 11:15 PM, leaving late-night travelers without options for onward journeys to Pune.

Travelers arriving in Pimpri-Chinchwad late at night by ST bus or train often have to rely on auto-rickshaws or app-based cabs like Ola and Uber, which can be expensive due to high night rates and unreliable auto fares.

Consequently, there has been a demand for a night bus service similar to that in Pune city. In response, PMPML has decided to implement the Ratrani bus service.

Ticket prices and the number of buses on this route will be determined based on passenger response. Initially, the ticket price is expected to be 25 per cent higher than regular fares. The administration has also stated that bus stops will be finalized soon.

Passengers have welcomed this decision, expressing relief at the prospect of more reliable and affordable late-night transportation options. Introducing the Raat Rani bus service is a great decision. It will alleviate the inconvenience faced by travelers," said Akshay Kadam, a regular passenger.

"This is a necessary service to meet the demands of commuters and should be maintained permanently," added Aniket Chandane, an employee.

"The Raat Rani bus service from Pune Station to Pimpri is in the planning stages. Bus stop locations and ticket prices will be determined based on passenger feedback," said Satish Gawhane, Chief Traffic Officer, PMPML.
