Pune: The intensity of rainfall across Maharashtra is expected to decrease over the next four days, including in the coastal and Western Ghats regions. Scattered light showers are likely in other parts of the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the next four days will see a reduction in rainfall intensity across the state. A yellow alert has been issued for coastal districts, including Pune, Satara, Vidarbha, and adjoining areas of Marathwada for Wednesday, July 10. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Thane, Yavatmal, and Washim districts.

Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, a retired scientist from the Meteorological Department, stated, "The monsoon branch in the Arabian Sea is currently active, with moisture-laden winds rapidly moving towards the coast. As a result, the coastal and Ghats regions will continue to experience rainfall, while the rest of the state will see a reduction in intensity until Thursday, July 11, after which the rainfall is expected to gradually increase."

The state's rainfall intensity has already decreased compared to Sunday and Monday. The coastal and Ghats regions are also experiencing less intense rainfall. The intensity is expected to pick up again after Friday, July 12.

The reduction in rainfall over the past week is attributed to the low-pressure belt, which stretched from Gujarat to Kerala, moving into the Arabian Sea, according to S.D. Sanap, a scientist from the Pune Meteorological Department.

Red and Orange alerts were issued for Pune District (Ghat region) and Pune city respectively, by the India Meteorological Department on Monday (July 8). This alert had prompted the district administration to force schools closure on Tuesday (July 9) in the entire district.

However, a rain took a leave on Tuesday which led to a blame-game between IMD and district officials, and citizens to question 'lack of comprehension' by the district officials.
