Pune: In a significant development aimed at easing traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road, the long-awaited Rajaram Bridge flyover was officially inaugurated on August 15 morning at the hands of Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister, Ajit Pawar.

The 520-meter-long flyover, which has been under construction since September 2021, is expected to play a vital role in streamlining traffic and reducing congestion on one of Pune's busiest roads.

The completion of the flyover marks the culmination of continuous efforts to address the traffic woes of residents and commuters in the area.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ajit Pawar remarked, "The opening of this new flyover on such a significant day as Independence Day symbolizes the dawn of new prosperity for Pune. We are committed to enhancing the city's infrastructure to benefit its citizens."

MLA Madhuri Misal, who has been instrumental in following up on the project, expressed satisfaction with the completion of the flyover, stating that it would greatly improve the traffic situation on Sinhagad Road.

To address the traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road, the flyover was proposed. The work on one part of the two-phase project has been completed, but the flyover had not been opened to the public.

The construction of this flyover at Rajaram Bridge Junction, which began in September 2021, was completed in July. However, due to the rain, the final 50-millimeter asphalt layer could not be laid, resulting in the delay in opening the flyover to traffic.

Various reasons, such as the closure of the asphalt plant and wet gravel, were cited for the delay. However, the necessary works, including asphalting, painting of the dividers, and installation of directional signs, were eventually completed.

The inauguration was delayed due to the unavailability of the leaders, which led to protests by the opposition. Considering the growing pressure from citizens, the flyover has been opened on Independence Day.
