Ravet Police Register Assault Case One Year After Parking Lot Attack

Salil Urunkar

Pune: In a delayed but significant development, an assault case has been registered at the Ravet police station, nearly a year after the incident occurred.

The case was filed following a directive from the Vadgaon Maval Court. The victim, General Singh Boparai (55), a resident of Celestial City, Mukai Chowk, sustained serious injuries, including a fractured rib, after being attacked with a baseball bat during an altercation in the parking area of his residential society.

The incident dates back to the night of September 19, 2023, when Boparai was attempting to park his car in the society’s parking lot.

At around 11:15 PM, he requested his neighbor, Devendra Rajendra Shevkari (40), to move his car to make space for parking. What should have been a routine request quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.

According to the complaint, Shevkari responded aggressively, first verbally abusing Boparai and then slapping him. The altercation turned more violent as Shevkari began punching and kicking the victim.

Matters took a worse turn when Shevkari retrieved a baseball bat from his vehicle and struck Boparai with great force on his back and waist, resulting in a fractured rib.

Despite the severity of the incident, no immediate legal action was taken. Frustrated by the lack of police response, Boparai approached the Vadgaon Maval Court to seek justice.

Acting on the court's orders, the Ravet police registered the case on September 20, 2024—almost a full year after the assault occurred.
