Pune: A drunk tempo driver went on a rampage, hitting multiple pedestrians and vehicles, causing injuries to around seven to eight people. The accident occurred in the Kothrud area, with two individuals reportedly in critical condition.

The chaos unfolded when the tempo driver, heavily intoxicated, first ran over two children at the Karishma Chowk traffic signal. Rather than stopping, the driver recklessly continued, crashing into several vehicles along the way.

His reckless spree did not end there. As he sped forward, he broke the signal at Paud Phata near the Veer Savarkar Flyover, crashing into two scooters and then ramming his tempo into a car.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the driver, identified as being severely drunk, was even closing his eyes while driving. His reckless actions from Karishma Chowk to Paud Phata left a trail of injuries, with around seven to eight people being hit, including three pedestrians near the flyover.

Two of these pedestrians are currently in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at Sahyadri Hospital.

Angry bystanders, shocked by the driver’s actions, pulled him out of the vehicle and assaulted him before the police arrived. Authorities quickly reached the scene and took control of the situation.

This incident occurred despite strict orders issued by District Collector Suhas Divase to prohibit alcohol sales in certain areas of Pune during the Ganesh festival till September 17.
