Pune: In the wake of recent tragedies near Bhushi Dam, another unfortunate incident has occurred in Maval taluka, where ongoing construction work on the main bridge along the Karla-Maval road is underway.

Due to construction work, an alternative route for commuters was provided, yet heavy and persistent rainfall in recent days has significantly increased water flow in the area. On July 5, amidst these conditions, a person was reported missing after being swept away while working on the bridge.

The missing person has been identified as Bhima Sakharam Pawar, a resident of Karla. The individual's fate remains uncertain as rescue operations led by local authorities intensify.

The construction project from Karla to Maval has been progressing amid concerns over its slow pace and the impact of continuous rainfall on water levels. The incident underscores concerns among locals regarding safety protocols during such infrastructure development.

Authorities have initiated a search operation, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures and timely completion of infrastructure projects to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, residents and authorities await updates on the ongoing rescue efforts amidst challenging weather conditions.

Recently, five individuals, including children and women, were swept away while on a monsoon outing near Bhushi Dam. The tourists were at a waterfall in the forest behind the Bhushi Dam when they were carried away by the water.

Post this incident, as a precautionary measure, tourism activities at historical sites, forts, monuments, and other tourist attractions across Pune district—including Haveli, Maval, Mulshi, Khed, Ambegaon, Junnar, Bhor, and heritage sites—are temporarily suspended until July 31st, citing safety concerns for visitors amid the monsoon season.
