Pune: The construction of the new bridge over the Mula River, connecting Sangvi and Bopodi, is in its final stages thanks to a collaborative effort between the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
The bridge aims to alleviate traffic congestion in crucial areas and will soon be open to the public. The cost of the project, ₹32.36 crores, will be equally shared by both municipal corporations.
The bridge project, which is being spearheaded by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, faced an initial deadline of 24 months. However, delays in acquiring land from the National Agricultural Research Center in Rahuri have pushed the completion date to August 31, 2024.
The bridge will span 125 meters over the Mula River and will include five spans of 25 meters each. The bridge, 18 meters wide, will feature a four-lane road and pedestrian walkways on both sides.
The approach road from the Pune side is 540 meters long, while the approach road from the Pimpri-Chinchwad side is 95 meters long.
The bridge, with a total length of 760 meters, will significantly reduce travel time between Sangvi and Bopodi, easing traffic congestion at Bremen Chowk, Aundh-Ravet Road, and Khadki Road, thereby improving overall traffic flow.
According to Chief Engineer Shrikant Savane, 90 per cent of the bridge construction is complete, and the bridge will soon be opened to the public.
