Sangvi: Three Injured in Machete Attack During Ganpati Immersion, Two Arrested

The two arrested individuals have been identified as Riddhesh alias Lala Hemant Patil and Shubham Baburao Navale.

Pune: A violent incident in Sangvi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, during the Ganpati immersion procession has left three individuals seriously injured.

The attack, carried out with a machete, occurred due to a longstanding enmity between the parties involved, according to the Sangvi police. The incident has caused widespread alarm in the local community, prompting swift action from the authorities, who arrested two suspects within hours.

The two arrested individuals have been identified as Riddhesh alias Lala Hemant Patil and Shubham Baburao Navale.

The attack took place on the seventh day of the Ganpati immersion festival, when the complainant, Galib Karim Shaikh, along with his cousin Aakib Shaikh, and friends Siddhant Dhende and Gaurav Bharat Yelmar, were standing on the roadside watching the procession.

According to police reports, Riddhesh and Shubham, along with a group of others, attempted to assault Galib with a sharp weapon, following a heated argument that stemmed from previous disputes.

In the ensuing altercation, Aakib, Siddhant, and Gaurav were caught in the melee and were attacked with machetes. The three victims suffered severe injuries, including deep wounds on their backs, foreheads, and cheeks.

They were immediately rushed to a private hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment for their injuries. Aakib sustained injuries on his back and forehead, Siddhant on his cheek, and Gaurav suffered a deep wound in his back.

The severity of the incident has sparked concern among local residents, leading to heightened police presence in the area to prevent further disturbances.
