Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi sets off for Pandharpur; CM Eknath Shinde does 'Fugdi'

Pune: The grand and devotional procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Palkhi (palanquin) to Pandharpur commenced with great enthusiasm in Alandi.

This year marks the 193rd year of the Palkhi procession. Thousands of devotees gathered by the banks of the Indrayani River, with pilgrims arriving from every corner of Maharashtra.

The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of cymbals and drums, and the chants of "Dnyanba Tukaram" echoed through the town. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also joined the event and offered his respects to Sant Dnyaneshwar.

As every year, Sant Dnyaneshwar's palanquin set off for Pandharpur with the chants of "Dnyanba Tukaram" resonating throughout Alandi. The festivities began early in the morning, with the temple adorned with beautiful flower decorations.

The phrase "Vaishnavacha Mahameru Yogi Dnyaneshwar" was prominently displayed in flowers at the temple entrance. Pilgrims gathered along the banks of the Indrayani River, taking a holy dip before joining the procession. After a ceremonial puja, the palanquin began its journey amidst loud chants of "Mauli, Mauli."

The first stop for the palanquin was at Gandhiwada, where it traditionally halts. The procession was heavily secured by the Pimpri-Chinchwad police, with officers, including Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, participating in plain clothes and enjoying the festivities while on duty.

Chief Minister Shinde prayed for the welfare of the state's farmers, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the event. He committed to making the Indrayani River pollution-free and ensuring cleanliness in the area, reaffirming his dedication to these causes.
