Pune: Doctors from Sassoon Hospital Dr. Aadi Kumar, a Junior Resident in the Orthopedics Department, and his colleagues have been suspended and a criminal case filed against them the Yerawada Police Station.
The doctors were allegedly found abandoning destitute patients from Sassoon Hospital at unknown locations. This distressing practice was uncovered through a sting operation conducted by activists Ritesh Gaikwad and Dadasaheb Gaikwad from the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.
The viral video of the incident has sparked outrage, raising questions about the doctors' integrity and humanity. In response, Dr. Eknath Pawar, the Dean of Sassoon Hospital, suspended Dr. Aadi and his associates.
Additionally, MLA Ravindra Dhangekar met with Dr. Pawar, demanding the suspension of the involved doctors and threatening a hunger strike if the demands were not met.
This is not the first time Sassoon Hospital has faced allegations of patient mistreatment. There have been numerous instances where patient lives were endangered, some even lost. Many such cases were reportedly suppressed. Recent incidents like the Lalit Patil and Porsche accident cases have already put the hospital under scrutiny.
MLA Dhangekar condemned the doctors' actions, pointing out the increasing insensitivity within the medical community. He emphasized that many patients turn to government hospitals due to the unaffordable costs of private healthcare. However, they often face mistreatment and neglect, as demonstrated by this incident.
"Doctors abandoning unclaimed patients in desolate places show their insensitivity. Soon, these doctors might not hesitate to sell patients' organs. Immediate suspension and stringent action against the involved doctors and their assistants are necessary to prevent such incidents. The government hospital's mistreatment and inhumane behavior are driving these actions," Dhangekar stated.
