Pune: In a heartwarming Diwali ceremony, staff members at the mortuary of Sassoon General Hospital, including technicians, doctors, and support staff, were honored for their tireless and challenging work.
Organized by the Shri Shani Maruti Bal Ganesh Mandal in the forensic department of the hospital, the event highlighted the importance of mortuary work, acknowledging it as "work akin to that of guardian angels."
This fifth annual Gratitude Honor Ceremony brought together notable personalities like Dr. Dhananjay Deshpande, Head of the Cyber Crime Prevention Department; Dr. Milind Bhoi, President of the Bhoi Foundation; and Dr. Yellappa Jadhav, Superintendent of the Forensic Department.
Additional attendees included Dr. Harish Tatya and Shankar Mugave. In his introductory remarks, Sachin Pawar, President of the Mandal, provided insights into the Mandal's various community initiatives, emphasizing the significance of the mortuary workers' service.
Dr. Tatya explained the essential role of the forensic department, noting that autopsies are crucial for determining causes of death and aiding in the identification of unknown individuals.
Senior mortuary worker Ramdas Solanki shared his experiences and perspective on the work. Piyush Shah hosted the ceremony and offered a vote of thanks.
Other attendees included community leaders and representatives such as Dinesh Pendhar, Rahul Marne, Sanjay Ghanekar, Ganesh Shelar, and Raj Pedhare.
Recently, in another development, the Pediatrics Department at Sassoon General Hospital has been recognized as a 'Center of Excellence in Pediatric Clinical Genetics,' making it the only government hospital in Maharashtra to achieve this distinction.
