Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is expanding its global presence by planning to open an educational sub-center in Dubai, following the successful establishment of its first overseas center in Qatar three years ago.

In a recent Management Council meeting, university officials discussed the proposal and have given the green light to proceed with setting up the Dubai center.

The council meeting, held on Saturday (October 26), focused on SPPU's intent to increase educational outreach in the Middle East and other international regions.

Alongside Dubai, the university is also exploring possibilities for sub-centers in Georgia, Saudi Arabia, and Kazakhstan.

According to university sources, the Management Council reviewed correspondence from institutions in these regions, which had expressed interest in collaboration.

Following this, the council directed the university administration to move forward with these international projects, particularly in Dubai.

SPPU’s Qatar sub-center currently offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in arts, commerce, and science, drawing a large number of Indian students.

This model has proven successful, encouraging SPPU to expand its reach to Dubai. The university is considering working with the same partner organization that manages its Qatar center to oversee operations in Dubai as well.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi told mediapersons, “We are optimistic about establishing a sub-center in Dubai, and the discussions in the Management Council meeting on Saturday were positive. SPPU is committed to pursuing internationalization and expanding its global footprint.”
