Sharad Mohol Murder Accused Denied Default Bail by Mumbai High Court

Pune: The Mumbai High Court has dismissed the appeal for default bail made by the accused in the infamous Sharad Mohol murder case. The court's decision was delivered by a bench comprising Justices Bharti Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande.

The accused, Sahil alias Munna Polekar and others, had filed a criminal appeal in the Mumbai High Court against the order of MCOCA Special Judge V. R. Kachare, who had extended the deadline for filing the chargesheet and denied them bail.

The accused had argued in the Special Court that the application for an extension of the chargesheet filing deadline by the prosecution was neither legal nor justified, and therefore, they applied for default bail. However, the Special Public Prosecutor on behalf of the state argued that the application for an extension was lawful and without any ambiguity.

The reasons cited in the application for the extension of the chargesheet filing deadline were found to be justified, and the investigation conducted by the investigating officers was deemed appropriate.

Special Judge V. R. Kachare refused to interfere with the order extending the deadline for the chargesheet and also rejected the accused's application for default bail. The accused then filed a criminal appeal against this order in the Bombay High Court.

In the MCOCA Special Court, District Government Pleader Adv. Pramod Bombatkar represented the government, while H. S. Venegaonkar represented the government in the Mumbai High Court.
