Pune: A couple from Pune fell victim to a cyber scam that resulted in the loss of ₹60.09 lakh. The 46-year-old complainant, a furniture businessman residing in Dhankawadi, reported the incident to the cyber police.
According to the complaint, the cybercriminals lured the couple with promises of substantial profits through share trading, which led to the scam occurring between July 20 and August 29, 2024.
Initially, the fraudster gained the couple's trust by delivering a profit of ₹42,000 after their initial investment. Encouraged by this, the complainant continued to invest, and soon, their trading app displayed a profit of ₹2 crore.
However, when they attempted to withdraw the funds, they were informed that a 25% tax was required. It was at this point that the couple realized they had been defrauded. They promptly filed a complaint at the cyber police station, where Inspector Yashwant Nikam is leading the investigation.
Authorities are currently tracing the origins of the scam and have warned the public against falling for similar trading schemes that promise unrealistic returns.
